A Run for PASIG RIVER 09.30.2012

The Run for the Pasig River is an annual advocacy run organized by ABS-CBN Foundation's Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig that serves as its fundraising and information campaign for the ongoing rehabilitation for the River.

Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) literally means "linking arms for the Pasig River," the coming together of different sectors—youth, private corporations, armed forces, nonprofit organizations and local government units and agencies—to once more give a chance to revive the historic Pasig River.

Since its launch, an annual run for the Pasig River has been held. This serves as the crux of KB
PIP’s fundraising and information campaign for the ongoing rehabilitation for the River.

KBPIP organized its first marathon last November 8, 2009 tagged as the "Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River", which was participated by 23,000 runners from all walks of life. The run got the attention of then Philippine president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which prompted her to donate PhP30M to KBPIP. The funds raised from the marathon were used in the initial rehabilitation of KBPIP's pilot tributary, Estero de Paco.

KBPIP's next run was held last October 10, 2010 dubbed as "10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River." This fun run aimed at inviting the most number of participants in a foot race, to beat the current world record held by the 1988 Bay to Breakers with 100,000 runners in San Francisco, USA. But more than beating the world record, the organizers hoped to drum up public awareness and a show of support for the cause of the Pasig River.

In 2011, KBPIP organized the "11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River" which had 86,547 runners, the largest run in the Philippines on that year.

This year's Run for the Pasig River is slated on 09.30.2012 (September 30, Sunday). Registration will begin on June 2012.
